Day 1: Arrival
Arrive at Entebbe Airport, probably the friendliest in Africa, met by our smiling guides. Overnight: Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel in Entebbe

Day 2: Kampala - Queen Elizabeth
Briefing on the great African adventure. Set off on the south-bound road; look at royal drum makers, stand on the Equator and be in both hemispheres at once, bargain at the roadside markets bursting with fruit and vegetables. Continue to the escarpment overlooking the Great Rift Valley. An unforgettable sight. Descend to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, keeping an eye out for the game. Overnight: Mweya Safari Lodge

Day 3 & 4: Queen Elizabeth NP
Go for an early morning game drive to seek out wildlife. Evening game drives. Excursion to Kyambura to track chimpanzees, one of man's closest relations. A boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. An easy walk in Maramagambo Forest. Overnight: Mweya Safari Lodge and Jacana Safari Lodge

Day 5: Lake Bunyoni
Start for Lake Bunyoni. Drive via Busheny, Tungamo, and Kasese through many hills and valleys. Transfer by motor boat to the Bushara Island. Go for a guided nature walk. Overnight: Bushara Tented Camp
Day 6: Kisoro/Kinigi
Swim in the clear fresh water, go for a bird walk, and explore the lakeshores in a canoe. In the afternoon leave for Rwanda. Make brief stops at places of interest including Kanaba Gap to view the dramatic Virunga volcanoes and beautiful terraced hills. Exit Uganda at Cyanika. Overnight: Gorillas'Nest

Day 7: Mountain Gorillas
As the first light of dawn breaks through the curtain of mist clinging to the summits of Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabyniyo, Gahinga and Muhabura, we make our way into the Parc National des Volcans. Tracking the gorillas through the unique vegetation can take several hours of challenging walking in wet and muddy conditions. To see a gorilla, the trek will have been worth the hardship. Overnight: Gorillas' Nest

Day 8: Mountain Gorillas or Golden Monkeys Trekking or Bisoke Climb
Trek a second time the mountain gorilla or follow a habituated group of golden monkeys (cercopithecus mitis kandti), which are endemic in the Virunga. You can also climb Bisoke volcano with its superb crater lake. In the afternoon, drive to Gisenyi on the northern shore of Lake Kivu. Overnight: Kivu Sun Gisenyi

Day 9: Departure
In the morning enjoy the fantastic views over Lake Kivu and its ragged shore. Experience the peaceful atmosphere of the calm and pristine waters of Africa's highest lake from the terrace of your hotel. Drive to Kigali and transfer to the airport.
