REGULAR SAFARIS - 7 DAYS INCLUSIVE:
Regular camel safaris can be organized as special safaris over diferent time frames and longer distances.
7 DAYS CAMEL SAFARI
Day 1: Nairobi - Mararal
Depart from Nairobi and travel via Nyahururu, Rumuruti to Mararal Camel club for overnight in self contained Bandas (cottages).
Day 2: Camel Trekking/Walking
After breakfast depart with your camels and morans into the bush. You will trek through the area never quite sure what you will see. It should be remembered that this safari is not primarily a game viewing safari, it is one led by, and in total harmony with the local Samburu people. Picnic lunch en route, afternoon arrival at your pre-prepared camp where the cook will be ready to offer you afternoon tea and snacks. Later on you may decide to take a guided walk through the bush before dinner. Overnight under the stars.
Day 3, 4 & 5: Camel Trekking/Walking
After breakfast set out through the bush at a leisurely pace either riding or walking. pass by Samburu manyattas whereby the escorting morans will organize with the elders for your entering. This will be at a small extra cost. Each day through out the safari you will have the picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight at the campsites.
Day 6: Maralal
Return to the club late morning where the trek ends. After lunch you will have a choice of some activities to participate. You can either relax at the club, walking with the Moran guides into the frontier colorful town of Mararal and a visit to the Samburu market.
Evening entertainment at the club. Morans and their ladies will dance for you. You can even join the group if you feel like. Take as many photos as you can without any charge.
Overnight at the club.
Day 7: Maralal - Nairobi
After breakfast drive to Nairobi with the lunch en route. Arrive at late afternoon for your flight home on overnight at Nairobi.
CAMEL RACING
Camel racing takes place annually at Samburu District situated on the axis of Samburu National park, Lake Baringo and Lake Turkana at far north.
Yare club provides a welcome break and stop over in comfortable self contained twin Bandas.
Day 1: Nairobi - Mararal
Depart Nairobi early morning for a 350 km journey to Mararal. Lunch en route at Nyahururu town or Rumuruti. Arrive at Mararal in the afternoon for the preparations of the next day's event. Overnight at Bandas.
Day 2 & 3: Mararal
The event takes 2 days.
On Saturday the race is open to Non-professionals who have ever participated at any other time. It covers a distance of 10 km only.
On Sunday the race is open to professionals. It covers a distance of 42km.
NB: If you wish to participate on Sunday the addition amount will be US $ 15 per person.
Day 4: Mararal - Nairobi
After breakfast say goodbye to Samburu district and return back to Nairobi arriving late afternoon.
The cost includes:
- Transport from Nairobi - Mararal and back.
- Accommodation at twin Bandas
- Camel hire
- Meals
- Entry fee.
