Mount Kenya has plenty of wildlife to view, particularly on the
lower slopes of the mountain. You can expect to see elephant, rhino,
buffalo leopard, bushbuck, several species of duiker, giant forest
hog, and colobus and Sykes monkeys. There is also prolific birdlife
around the mountain, ranging from huge eagles to multicoloued sunbirds.

7 Days Mount Kenya - Kamweti Route
Day 1 Nairobi/Castle forest Lodge
Depart Nairobi for Mt Kenya arriving at Castle forest lodge (2300m)
for dinner and overnight stay. Spend the afternoon after noon in
the lodge where you can have bird walks along the nature trails.
Day 2: Kamweti rest house
After breakfast, leave Castle forest lodge for a two hours walk
to Upper Kamweti rest house for lunch, dinner and over night stay
(2600m). Distance covered 10 kilometers.
Day 3: Sagana campsite
Leave Kamweti rest house for a 16 km walk through the Bamboo forest
to Sagana campsite. Lunch en route dinner and over night stay at
the camp. (3650m).
Day 4: Thego campsite
After breakfast, depart for a 15 km walk through Bamboo forest,
giant heath and then moorland to Thego campsite. (4050m).
Day 5: Mackinder's camp
After breakfast, leave thego camp to Mackinder's camp (4300m) via
lake Hohnel. Walk through some of Mt Kenya wild flowers like, Water
filled lobelias, cabbage lobelias, giant ground -sells and giant
senesces. Lunch en route, dinner and over night at the camp.
Day 6: Point Lenana/ Meru Mt Kenya Bandas campsite
Today, you will wake up at 0230am and have a light breakfast. At
0300am, start attempting point Lenana arriving at 0615am ready for
the sunrise. On a clear morning Mt Kilimanjaro is clearly visible
weather permitting. Descend to Mintos hut for a full breakfast and
latter descend further Meru Mt Kenya Bandas campsite for dinner
and over night stay.
Day 7: Chogoria/ Nairobi
After breakfast, walk for about 10km and then board a 4x4 vehicle
to Chogoria for lunch before proceeding to Nairobi having conquered
the second highest mountain in Africa.
